Tom B. Reed Bio

A prolific performer, writer and improvisor in the Twin Cities, MN area and beyond, Reed has years of sketch comedy and improv experience on the Brave New Workshop mainstage, he's done musicals and plays at Mixed Blood and other theaters, croons solo character improv as alter ego Lounge-asaurus Rex, and has created and performed popular Minnesota Fringe Festival one-man musical parodies of everything from Harry Potter to Game of Thrones to a Stranger Things send-up Star Tribune called "Drop dead funny." He directed and served as head writer of the series of Couple Fight Fringe shows, has regularly performed at HUGE Theater and is a former member of Comedy Sportz and the Rockstar Storytellers.

Reed can be seen in TV (Lady Dynamite, America Unearthed), Films (The Public Domain, many shorts) and commercials - Tom on IMDB.

As a writer, Reed loves comedy, especially satire, including Gunplay, which combines high school theater nerdery and romcom vibes to skewer the gun lobby, dozens of sketches at Brave New Workshop and a short play selected for the Raucous Caucus political play festival in New York City. He's also been part of writing teams for several award-winning 48 Hour Film Project films. He wrote and directed his first horror play, Greenway, as part of the 2018 Twin Cities Horror Festival, which City Pages praised as "spine-tinglingly relatable."

Specific credits include: ~20 mainstage Brave New Workshop sketch comedy and improv shows; playing Donald in Lady Dynamite (Netflix) and Ananias Dare in America Unearthed (History Channel); Mixed Blood Theatre productions - Pastor Fred in INTERSTATE: A New Musical; Karl in Autonomy; Hunter/Burns in Hooded: Or Being Black for Dummies; Dean/Devin in Gloria; Ensemble in Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Henry in Next to Normal and Princeton in Avenue Q, along with Daniel in Actors Theater's The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged). Additional on-screen credits include Grant Tunis in feature film, The Public Domain, many commercials and short film roles including Plumber Jack in Above-the-Line Entertainment's Vigorous Torque (Best Actor - 2015 48 Hour Film Project Minneapolis, South Dakota Film Festival selection), Rosencrantz in Above-the-Line Entertainment's film Coming Out (48HFP Best film winner, nominated Best Actor, Best Writing), Tad in Eyehustle Entertainment's film Buffalo Shampoo (jury award - comedy, SD Film Festival).

In the past, Reed competed for several national slam poetry teams and once performed in an unusually inclusive production of
The Vagina Monologues (per instructions of the author).

Reed loves biking, games of all kinds, and spent his youth performing hard-hitting musicals like Of Mice and Mozart and A Sombrero For Santa when he wasn't hoeing garlic on his family's organic vegetable farm or getting beaten up for smelling like garlic and singing all the time.
